At least, *something* has to have happened to trigger such a negative attitude towards Samsung and LG. I'm starting to think Ron had some bad kimchi at some point. Without something to pull the geek in and their recommendations for their friends/families or the carriers pushing it they just never got much in sales volume. LG never really had a huge catch for the geek buyer, that preferred Nexus or One Plus etc, or the marketing to be the default for the uninformed buyer.

LG made decent alternatives for those phones at the time and I'm 99% sure that had the salesman pushed an LG whatever they would have come home with that instead. My In-laws ended up with a pair of Samsung phones simply because they went into the Verizon store and bought what ever the Verizon salesman pushed that was in their price range which ended up being some midrange Samsung A something or other I think. The bootloop issues and quality issues with their own OLED screen might have caused them some issues but at least in the US the biggest issue always seemed to be the lack of marketing in general and sales deals with the carriers. My brother-in-law is a bit of an audiophile so the high quality DACs with an actual headphone jack have been a draw for him.

My sister and brother-in-law have had a couple generations of LG phones, usually picked up on BOGO deals to upgrade them both at the same time, and they have both been pretty happy with them AFAIK.
